Our first glance gives us a seascape with a lighthouse. We focus in and see the refugee at the top of the lighthouse asking: Where will I go? What will I do? Or maybe it is the metaphorical refugee in all of us looking for our next step. The light in the lighthouse is created with eight Republic of China sunrise lighthouse stamps. As your eye travels down the tower you’ll be able to count at least eight more lighthouse stamps from various countries. The solid ground is made from stamps portraying those who’ve walked it before us, while the sea, ever moving, shifting, changing - is made with Lady Liberty stamps. The sky, almost cloud free, is open and blue with a mix of stamps honoring the United Nations, atoms for peace, peace bridge, and various others representative of higher ideals. artist side note: Three months after completing this piece, I was visiting my cousin in Virginia Beach and spending the day at the Edgar Cayce Center. As I sat in the third floor meditation room gazing out over the sea, I glanced over to a letter board and read the posting: “I will instruct thee and teach thee the way in which thou shalt go; I will counsel [thee] with mine eye upon thee. Show thee thou the way.”
